My views on life are as diverse as where I come from – Southern California. Having lived and worked in many places all over the world, Southern California remains unique in its geography, socio-political structure and climate. All of these have contributed to making me who I am. But these things pale in comparison to how my parents raised me. Although most of the country would consider my childhood quite normal, here in Southern California, my childhood was anything but. And it’s that contradiction that formed the foundation of who I am. Some of my views could be considered too traditional or antiquated, while other views could be considered too liberal or on the verge of being an endorsement of socialism – and I am ok with that. I think we all struggle with how we see the world but as men and more importantly, Fathers, we have to better understand ourselves so that we can decisively lead our children in to the future.
